WHO: SARS in New York City

Last night’s bioterrorist attack in the subway system of New York resulted in a widespread SARS outbreak this morning. The virus has spread to the UN itself, with one reported death in the New York UN building. The WHO has been quarantined in their meeting room until they can come up with a solution to the crisis.

WHO passes resolution on emergency preparedness

After hours of heated debate, the WHO finally came together and passed a multi-faceted resolution pertaining to the complex issue of emergency preparedness. The resolution, championed by Canada, Sweden, and the USA provides a framework for disaster response and calls upon the developed world to contribute financially to emergency infrastructure in the developing world.

ICJ starts an advisory proceeding on the South China Sea

The topical dispute of the South China Sea has reached the ICJ! Delegates have taken on new lenses with which to assess a world issue dealing with a variety of countries. Hard at work, the lawyers of ICJ are in the process of looking at the biases of such players in South East Asia as China, Vietnam, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. With these opinions in mind, delegates will have to apply their countries perspectives to a case involving a dispute over sovereignty, safety, security and of course, the seas.

WHO: E. Coli crisis solved

Lead by the outspoken delegates from France, Somalia, and Italy, the WHO passed a resolution solving the E. coli crisis. Although the E. coli bacteria killed hundreds, the delegates successfully prevented more casualties and contained the outbreak.

ICJ: Germany owes nothing; Italy unjustified

The ICJ has said that Italy, in a close 5-3 decision, was not allowed to try Germany in their own domestic courts, based on Article 27 of the European Convention for Peaceful Settlement of Dispute. Italy mentioned that Germany had lost it’s sovereign immunity because it broke the Geneva Conventions, but Germany proved that it didn’t owe any reparations. Next, the ICJ will see the case of Croatia vs. Serbia.
