UNHRC: CRISIS: Ugandan crops lit on fire; damage expected to be severe.
Crops have been lit on fire by an pre-1986 loyalist rebels in Northern Uganda! Large fields of crops are burning in the northern region of Uganda, and while Lake Victoria is a nearby source of water that can be used, the extent is so large that severe damage is likely. Ugandans have begun fleeing into nearby nations such as Kenya and the DR Congo to avoid the unfortunate damage caused by the fire, resulting in a vast humanitarian crisis that must be dealt with.
WHO: E. coli outbreak in Germany
A new, highly infectious strain of E. coli has broken out in Germany. People are cautioned to avoid eating raw vegetables.
The WHO has begun discussion on possible solutions for this crisis.
From the BBC:
“There has been a significant rise in the number of people in Europe infected by a strain of E. coli which has led to the deaths of 17 people, officials say.”
UPDATE:
The outbreak has spread to the UK and Sweden. The vegetables have also been exported to France. However, the German government has stopped exporting the vegetables.
As a note, boiling the vegetables will not eradicate the disease. All delegates at the VYMUN are urged to be discerning about the vegetables they eat.
The ICJ has made a decision
The International Court of Justice has decided that Greece was justified in rejecting the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia’s application to NATO. They are currently entertaining the case of Germany vs. Italy/Greece in which Germany is taking Italy and Greece to the ICJ for trying Germany in their own courts related to funds owing from a treaty signed after WWII.
Debate has begun in the UNHRC.
The UNHRC, by a overwhelming majority, has voted to begin debate on refugees affected by the drought in East Africa. Stay tuned for updates.
