United Nations Human Rights Council

Hilary Chu – Chair
Hilary is graduating from WPGA this year and is extremely excited to chair the UNHRC. An active MUN-er, Hilary has competed in Model UN for several years, competing in conferences all over Canada. As for humanitarian service, Hilary has travelled to Kenya to build schools, and from that, introduced countless initiatives to raise awareness about poverty, hunger, refugees, among others. As such, Hilary has much personal experience dealing with humanitarian issues. Hilary wishes the rest of the UNHRC good luck and hopes that their individual experiences will improve their knowledge as world citizens.

Alessandra Harkness – Director
Hi my name is Alessandra Harkness but you can call me Ali. I’m going to be the director on UNHRC this year. I’ve done debate and model un for a couple years now and am super excited to share my experiences with you and I am really looking forward to getting to know all of you. I play volleyball and soccer and I enjoy watching bad reality tv shows.

Nathan Chan – Assistant Director

A grade eleven student from West Point Grey Academy, Nathan has participated actively in MUN for over four years, attending conferences ranging from VYMUN to SSUNS to HMCE. Part of the reason for Nathan’s passion in MUN is the fact that it allows individual delegates to debate world issues that, in turn, help them become more knowledgeable global citizens. Aside from MUN, Nathan also enjoys reading fiction, gaming, and biking, and, in the future, Nathan hopes to become a neurologist specializing in behavioral cognition and sub-specializing in pediatrics.

Christina Hofmann – Assistant Director
Christina is an active debater involved heavily with Model UN. She has participated in Model UN since grade 7, and this year will be her 4th year in WPGA’s Model UN program. Christina loves to help others and has shown this through her leadership involving many humanitarian-related initiatives. In her spare time, Christina enjoys playing sports such as soccer, hanging out at malls, and taking long walks down beaches. Christina looks forward to a great weekend with the UNHRC delegates this year.
Hikari Maki – Assistant Director
Hikari has been active in Model United Nations since her grade 11 year and hopes to make an even bigger contribution this year. Currently, she is in grade 12 and is eager to be a part of of the VYMUN staff. In her spare time she works at Brown’s Social House as a hostess so is very comfortable around people. She is easily approachable and is planning to make this year’s VYMUN the best yet. She enjoys spending time with friends and family.
