Arab League

The Arab League is a regional organization of Arab countries in and around North Africa, the Horn of Africa and Arabia. It was formed in Cairo, Egypt on March 22, 1945. The League’s main goal is to “draw closer the relations between member States and co-ordinate collaboration between them, to safeguard their independence and sovereignty, and to consider in a general way the affairs and interests of the Arab countries”.

The Arab League is designed primarily for intermediate delegates. Though position papers are not required, they are recommended to ensure delegates feel prepared and comfortable throughout the conference.

Topic 1. Israeli – Palestinian Conflict

Topic 2. Combating the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS)

Position papers are required for anyone wishing to be eligible for an award.
Position papers are due Friday, October 27.

Arab League Background Guide

Abhay Katyal| Director | arableague@vymun.com

abhayHi, my name is Abhay, I am currently in Grade 11 at WPGA. I am thrilled to be your director this year for the Arab League. My involvement in Model UN has brought about amazing experiences for me over the past two years. Ever since my introduction to Model UN in Grade 8, I have enjoyed every aspect of it, which has led to a growing passion for it. Outside of MUN, I spend most of my time participating in sports like cross country and track and field. I hope to make VYMUN 2017 the best it can be, and if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me at any time. See you all in October!

20107207_679315448926696_15249363_oHello, my name is Ashton and I am a grade 11 student at WPGA. This will be the first MUN I’ve staffed and I am so excited to get the feel for things and meet many new and lovely people while working as the assistant director for Arab League. I love astronomy, ducks and sleeping and I usually waste the little free time I have drawing or watching Netflix. I hope you’re excited for the best VYMUN yet! Can’t wait to meet and get to know you! See you in October!
