UNSC

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is responsible for international peacekeeping and security. Founded in 1945, the council is the United Nations’ most powerful body. The Security Council has fifteen members, five of which are permanent members  and ten which are rotating  members with two-year terms. The five permanent members have veto power, which provides the council with a profound flair unavailable in any other UN body. UNSC will be a quasi-crisis committee.

The UNSC is designed primarily for intermediate and advanced delegates. Though position papers are not required, they are recommended to ensure delegates feel prepared and comfortable throughout the conference.

Topic 1. Nuclear Power in North Korea

Topic 2. Syrian Civil War

Position papers are required for anyone wishing to be eligible for an award.
Position papers are due Friday, October 27, 2017

DSC_2489 copy.pngHi, my name is Vishnu and I am delighted to be your director of the United Nations Security Council for VYMUN 2017. I am in grade 11 at West Point Grey and have participated in Model UN, both as a staff and a delegate since Grade 8. I entered the MUN world in Grade 8 and have had the time of my life since. From attending conference in Vancouver to Hong Kong, Model UN has been an amazing experience for me. Alongside MUN I love playing sports, keeping up with politics and watching suits. I look forward to seeing all of you at VYMUN 2017 and hope that I can help make your VYMUN experience as great as mine has been. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns before or during the conference. See you all in October!

While I am not participating in MUN I enjoy sports including soccer, football, and golf. Whether you need to talk sports or have questions on rules and procedures if you run into me do not hesitate to ask.

I’ve participated in VYMUN before and am really looking forward to being staff instead of a delegate this year. Outside of MUN, I enjoy reading, singing, and playing video games. Best of luck to all of you with your topic papers and hope you have a lot of fun!
